The pressure on organizations in tourism, hospitality and property to operate clearly sustainably and in a socially responsible way is growing fast. Not only in the area of the environment, but also when it comes ot health, well-being and social impact.
In order to help organizations to integrate these themes better, Adamas developed a white paper:
“Aligning WELL and Biosphere – A Unified Approach to Health, Sustainability and Responsible Tourism.”
Two powerful frameworks, one integrated approach
Within the built environment and the tourism sector there are various international certifications that promote sustainability and health. Two of the most influential systems are:
Biosphere Certification, based on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) of the United Nations and in particular developed for destinations and touristic organizations.
WELL Building Standard, which focuses on health, well-being and the quality of the built environment for users.
Although theses frameworks have been developed originating from different perspectives, they show in practice strong similarities and synergy.
Our white paper investigates how these two systems can reinforce one another.
What you can learn from the white paper
In this publication we analyse the relationship between the Biosphere indicators and the characteristics of WELL and we demonstrate where they differ, are the same and how organizations can combine both systems strategically.
Important insights from the research:
There is significant overlap in content when it comes to themes such as healthy food, mental health, physical activity and social inclusion.
By combining both systems organizations can work more efficiently and prevent duplication of effort.
The combination strengthens the organizations ESG narrative towards guests, investors and stakeholders.
For hotels, resorts, touristic destinations and property developers this offers the opportunity to position both health and sustainability holistically.
